NorthPaw

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how NorthPaw handles information across the website, stay-connected form, survey, and iOS app. NorthPaw is a project by Next Steps Beyond.

Effective date: May 31, 2026

1. Overview

NorthPaw is designed to help dog owners understand pavement safety, customize outing guidance, manage dynamic checklists, and use practical field guide information. The iOS app is built around local storage and does not require accounts, passwords, or background location tracking.

2. Local Device Storage

In the NorthPaw iOS app, dog profiles, dog portraits, outing notes, checklist progress, selected surfaces, and local reminder settings are stored on the user's device using local sandboxed storage. This information is not uploaded to NorthPaw servers.

NorthPaw does not collect personal user names, passwords, phone numbers, or account credentials inside the app. Because app data is stored locally, deleting the app removes locally stored NorthPaw app data from the device.

3. Weather & Location Services

NorthPaw may request location permission to query local weather used for pavement timelines, the NorthPaw Index, and dynamic checklist suggestions. Coordinates are used to request weather data through HTTPS from public weather providers such as api.weather.gov or Tomorrow.io.

NorthPaw does not track location in the background, build coordinate history profiles, sell location data, or use location for third-party advertising.

4. Analytics & Telemetry

NorthPaw may use Mixpanel to collect aggregated, anonymous usage events such as timeline scrubs, checklist launches, selected surface cycles, and basic dog profile metadata such as breed, snout category, coat type, and activity baseline. This helps measure feature engagement and improve the NorthPaw Index algorithm.

Telemetry is associated with a random anonymous UUID generated locally on the device and is not connected to a real-world identity. NorthPaw does not use IDFA or track hardware advertising identifiers.

5. Payment Data

If NorthPaw offers paid or Pro features, purchases and subscription billing are completed securely through the App Store. RevenueCat may be used to restore and manage subscription status. NorthPaw does not receive or store payment card numbers or financial account details.

6. Website, Email, and Survey Information

The NorthPaw website may collect information you choose to submit through the stay-connected form, survey, or direct email. This may include an email address, optional first name, survey responses, product feedback, and information you choose to send in a message.

  • MailerLite is used for stay-connected email updates.
  • Tally is used for surveys and feedback collection.
  • Cloudflare is used for website hosting, security, and analytics-related infrastructure.

Email and survey information may be used to send NorthPaw updates, respond to feedback, improve product direction, and understand which features are most useful.

7. Email Communications

If you submit your email on the website, NorthPaw may email you about release updates, product previews, safety resources, surveys, or related product communication. You can unsubscribe using the unsubscribe link in an email, when available, or by contacting the email address below.

8. Data Control and Deletion

Since app data is stored locally, you can delete dog profiles, notes, checklists, and photos by deleting the app from your device. For website email or survey information that you submitted directly to NorthPaw, you may request deletion, opt out of future communications, or ask what information you submitted by contacting us.

9. Children’s Privacy

NorthPaw is not intended for children under 13, and the site and app are not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as NorthPaw evolves. If the policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
